I'm having some odd errors emerging ttmkfdir. I'm running a chroot'd copy of a copied Gentoo installation (reasons below) and I don't know what the following error means. Is it my incomplete copied gentoo, or is this a build error that would be happening anyway? Thanks for any help.

This computer is running knoppix chroot'd on a complete (except for proc) copy of another computer of the same chip/optimization family. I won't have enough time to install from scratch, and this 'copy a similar machine' pattern has worked well enough in a pinch before.
The reasons are that this computer is a) a slow laptop with b) only a wireless card, with c) the existing kernel lacking pcmcia and wireless network suppport, and d) the server it was copied from had no X enabled. I'm trying to get as much emerged while I have the luxury of the distcc networked environment, before rebooting.

When posting any type of error like this, `emerge info' is extremely helpful, so please post that _________________ Mark Loeser

I see that we both have the same version of libtools installed. I'm going to try to roll my version back to see if the problem goes away. If it does ill let you know.
(edit: Yeah i know. Ive decided to just run it in 32 bit mode for now. Compatability is a real concern in 64 bit mode) |

Ah. I also have that libtool installed, and have for quite awhile. There haven't been any changes to it recently, so the problem probably lies elsewhere. _________________ Mark Loeser

| Well i rolled libtool back to the stable version and everything is working flawlessly. I beleive that there is an issue with --tag switch with the newest version. But i dont know the first thing about it, so i can't say for sure. |

Versioning down to 1.4.3-r4 worked for me.
| Code: | | echo ">sys-devel/libtool-1.4.3-r4" >> /etc/portage/package.mask |

Reemerging libtool will prolly be the best solution. This way you will not have the same problem with any other packages!
I'm posting this 3 years later because of ppls that go through google looking for help! (like i did 10 minutes ago). |

Hello,
I just faced the same issue on my amd64 system.
Emerging libtool again solved the situation. But if the root cause of that is an update of perl (frankly speaking, I don't remind last time it was updated), probably a dependency has to be added in order to enforce rebuilding of libtool.
