I have an Code: | cpu : Texas Instruments, Inc. - SuperSparc-(II)
fpu : SuperSparc on-chip FPU
promlib : Version 3 Revision 2
prom : 2.25
type : sun4m
ncpus probed : 2
ncpus active : 2
Cpu0Bogo : 74.75
Cpu1Bogo : 74.95
MMU type : TI Viking/MXCC
contexts : 65536
nocache total : 5242880
nocache used : 443392
CPU0 : online
CPU1 : online | and 512MB RAM.
I have been using this machine as a SHELL for myself and some friends on the outside. A small 4.3GB HD to start the BOX and another 19GB HD for storage aka HOME Dir.
I am starting to use the BOX more and more and I thought installing an X-Desktop would make some thing easier... on the other hand I don't know if 1600x1200 is possible and how fast Sparky is going to work my X-Desktop.
Can anyone tell me what they have experienced? _________________ cya |

I don't know what resolutions will be available to you, but X11R6 (xorg-x11) will build and run on SS20.
Once it starts up, X itself runs fine (performance is in line with anything else on the system.)
As for using it as a desktop, that would depend on what applications you have in mind.
Fairly light weight window managers like fvwm work pretty well. Environments like kde or gnome should
work, but I have no first-hand experience. Something like OpenOffice would be someplace between most unlikely to impossible.
(I'm guessing about that one, of course. )
Specific performance or resolution questions are between you and your frame buffer.
