I'd like to point out that:
1) explorer is fast
2) X is fast
3) so are many window managers
BUT when you combine X and a window manager things begin to slow down.
Explorer is however both in one and does it quickly.
Now i know Linux has its advanatges over choice etc etc, but i'd still like to see desktop performance in Linux speeded up. |

Hrm..
Linux on PIII700 & P200 & Cele 350 & ......
On all of the linux has been as fast or faster for the majority of applications. That P200 is running X remote off of my PIII700.
I would say load time still need to be tacked, but prelinking goes quite a ways for that. Actually running application run faster under linux. Hell even many emulated apps run faster. |

To preload mozilla, you can enable "Turbo" or "quick-launch" mode. I don't know if this actually works on Linux, but it does in Windows. The key is browser.turbo.enable and it might be under "quick launch" in the preferences pages. You can try to look around for that. |

Much faster than stable 2.0, seriously you will notice immediately. |

If you use GNOME you can go to Desktop Preferences -> Advanced -> Sessions and use the tab "Startup Programs" to launch it. KDE probably has something similar. |

You guys should take a look at this. Basically it links your binaries to their respective libraries ahead of time so that they start up faster. I noticed a considerable speed increase..
