Hello,

when I type:
grub
to set it up, I get:
bash: grub command not found

I looked in most */bin/* and /sbin folders and I couldn't find it.

I have the new 1.4_rc2 cd basic stage1 cd, and I started with stage1. I'm at the grub point in the instructions.

I'm guessing there are three options:
1. It's not on the CD
2. I made a bad CD
3. I'm really stupid and I can't find it

What to do?

Thanks a lot

You did download an *.ISO and not a tarball?

Yes I dowloaded the ~40MB .iso
and burned it on 2 different cdr's just be sure

I find out I can run grub if I exit the chroot environment
With the older cd I didn't have to exit and the instructions don't tell you to.

Can I run grub after I exit the chroot environment?

Thanks

i think you need to try grub from the cd and not from the chroot environment.

press <Alt> + <F2> and then try again with the command grub.

cheers

Yes alt-f2 makes me log on the cd
grub command works but now when I type
setup (hd0)
it says:

Code:
Checking if "/boot/grub/stage1" exists... no
Checking if "/grub/stage1" exists... no

Error 15: File not found

grub>

Maybe sometng went wrong earlier?
Now I don't know how to get back (from alt-f2)!

How about alt+f1?

Try "emerge grub", and then running it.

Thanks a lot.
That was really fast

emerge grub solved the problem.

I guess it was option 3 from above :P
Now on to other problems, (some mounting problems I'll figure out eventually)...

Thanks again everyone
