hi there, after having much trouble with grub, i am now resorting to lilo.
i have done the following:
emerge lilo
and it comes up with the message:
/boot is not mounted, please mount.
i mount it again and again but still, the same problem. Any ideas? |

Or something like that... |

This does not seem to be an error from emerge, not at least for versions lilo-22.1-r3 nor lilo-22.3.3-r1 which are the ones in my tree. You can check for any error message you 'suspect' is an emerge problem, by searching the *.ebuild files in the /usr/portage tree, in this case it was /ur/portage/sys-apps/lilo.
So, is it an error from LILO? Can you post the full error/logs and your current /etc/lilo.conf file please. _________________ Someone told me that "..they only ever made one mistake...."

Look at the thread "Help Kernel Panic booting from Grub Bootdisk" in this forum - There's been lots of posts about this and related problems with "Panics: VFS: Unable to mount ... " errors but this particular one it juicy
Maybe our Moderator/Groupies can give us a Sticky Thread, at the top of the forum??? _________________ Someone told me that "..they only ever made one mistake...."
