Wierd on this...

Used to be working fine , until this ...

Started "emerge koncd" and it started to download qt2 but I've got qt3 already installed - guess this is dependancy of koncd, anyway, I CTRL-Cd the emerge :?

Rebooted this morning and now, instead of my luvly KDE greeter I get the naff X greeter. If I kill this, init spawns off another X greeter (fine - thats normal). So, if I log in on another ps-tty as root, kill the X session and apps, then issue 'startkde' - it all works. If I kill the X server now using [CTRL]-[Backspace], the KDE greeter appears !!

Why does it not work at boot me wonders. I've checked my /usr/share/config/kdm directory's files and my /etc/X11 directory files - nothing obvious. If I run /etc/X11/chooser.sh then this tells me "kde-3.1_rc5" which is correct, so why does it fire up X 8O greeter?

TIA

I'm not sure if this is what you are talking about, but you can specify the default display manager (gui login) in the file /etc/rc.conf

Perhaps this file was corrupted when you killed the emerge? Worth a quick look anyway.

Yeah, I have "DISPLAYMANAGER=xdm" , should be kdm.

I looked at that earlier, but missed it as I was looking at the bottom of the file at XSESSION=.....

Sorted, ta. Dya reckon a SIG-INT to my "emerge koncd" would have casued this change, the rest of the file? The file has indeed been modified but I've been 'dabbling' around with my config the last couple of days - although I don't recall this change

Cheers "R-O-B"
