I rebuilt my system yesterday an now I can't run konqueror in Super User mode when I'm logged in as user other than root. The kdesu applet pops up, I enter the root password, and then konqueror opens--and immediately closes. This doesn't happen when I kdesu with other apps, so I don't know what's going on. |

I had the same problem. When I changed the command line to:
Code: | LOGNAME=root kdesu konqueror |
I can get in as root. I now have two menu items. One with the above command line and one with just konqueror for regular mode. |

This is not specific enough to help me! Edit what line in which file? I've looked in
/usr/kde/3.1/share/applnk/System/More/konquerorsu.desktop
But I don't see a line resembling
Code: |
LOGNAME=root kdesu konqueror
|
In fact, there is no LOGNAME in any .desktop file...
I have tried solutions in other posts (the ones saying, log in to kde as root, setup, then log in as regular user) but not the suggestion to nuke mcop-* whatever from /tmp, that doesn't sound like a solution (I will try it next anyway).
I've seen bugs about this in bugs.kde.org, esp. with Gentoo.
If you have a solution, please state it--but well-specified!!!

you use that as the command, IIRC. You go to the menu editor, and add and icon called 'Konqueror (root)'. In the field that asks for the command, instead of just typing 'kdesu konqueror', you type 'LOGNAME=root kdesu konqueror'. Now, when you click on the icon, you should be able to enter the root password and et into the file browser as root. Hope I remembered all of that correctly. |

Wow! It worked... I see no reason that 'LOGNAME=' blah.. should run the program correctly...
I have looked at kde's buglists, other threads, google results for this, and this is the only solution that has worked for me.
Much kudos my friend.
Now of course, since I'm preparing to upgrade beyond my woeful 3.1_beta1 kde, I'll probably end up breaking everything again... |

When I upgraded to 3.1_rc5 the original bug disappeared. The fix is simple to apply if it ever resurfaces. |
