gdm does not work as service but from console

Hello!
As said in the topic, when I start gdm as root from the console, everything works fine.
I can login and use any wm I like.
In rc.conf DISPLAYMANAGER is set to gdm and I did an rc-update add xdm default.
When the srvice is started gdm tries to start about five times and gives an error message: Failed to start the displaymanager...
Logfile-entry: gdmgreeter: No default session link found. Using Failsafe GNOME.
I don't have gnome installed, just gdm.
Is there any way to provide gdm with a "default session link"?

The session link is found on /etc/X11/gdm/Sessions
It points to a directory where you have the scripts (much like .xinitrc) for different sessions. (I'm not currently using gdm to check where the link points)
