Could some point me to some resources on devfs, especially if it is gentoo specific. I'm trying to learn more about devfs since it is new to me. Primarily how to load modules automatically on demand. For example, when I load tuxracer, the game (or would it be the os ?) should automatically load the modules for my gamepad without any help from me. When I shut the game down the modules should be unloaded. This is the whole point of a module based system. Also, if I have devfs installed then how come I have so many entries in /dev, If I understand correctly I should only see entires in /dev that coorespond to actual devices available on my system at any given moment.
If anyone can answer these questions or provide information, resources please do so.
Thanks,

The best place to learn about devfs (that I'm aware of) is: /usr/src/linux/Documentation/filesystems/devfs/README and boot-options. I don't think there are any "gentoo specific" ways of configuring devfsd.conf, seems to me that you either use devfs and configure it how you want or don't use it at all. |
