Windows Key causes screen to blank

  • Quote

Post by ChipBender » Wed Sep 22, 2004 4:08 pm

I'm very new to gentoo and while emerging kde I pressed the windows key on my keyboard. I have a standard US keyboard and layout with no funky keymappings.

My question is how do I get my screen back?

I've tried <CTRL>C, ESC and BREAK without success.

I don't want to resort to a CTRL-ALT-DEL.

Any help for a newbie?

Try CTRL-ALT-Backspace. This is the command to shut down the Xserver, whereupon it should automatically start up again if you are using kdm.

KDE isn't running yet. I'm still emerging it.

All I have is a blinking cursor in the upper left corner of my monitor.

Any other suggestions?

OT does it always take 10 hours to emerge a package like KDE?

For KDE, yeah 10 hours is pretty fast. It took 3 days on one of my computers.

alt+f1. ;)
The winkey changes the virtual terminals in reverse, the last being some kind of logging one. So either winkey back or directly alt+f#.
