I too have the same problem. I need to use the Cisco VPN client before I can get connection to the Internet. How can I do that with a Gentoo LiveCD?
The link above doesn't work for me.
Thanks in advance. |

Hi,
I had this problem too, and I've found a solution. This is what I've done:
1) My ethernet card is eth1. net-setup eth1 -> wired -> DHCP. If you type ifconfig you should see a local IP assigned to eth1.
2) Edit /etc/ppp/chap-secrets, so that it looks like:
"username" PPTP "password" *
(You must write the " characters).
3) pppd nobsdcomp nodeflate novj name "username" remotename PPTP pty "pptp 10.0.0.3 --nolaunchpppd" noauth
In my case 10.0.0.3 is the host I want to connect to.
I got a message saying to create a ppp device with mknod. Something like: mknod /dev/ppp c 108 0
I didn't need mppe support. If you do, it should be:
pppd nobsdcomp nodeflate require-mppe novj nomppe-stateful name "username" remotename PPTP pty "pptp 10.0.0.3 --nolaunchpppd" noauth
If you type ifconfig, you'll see a ppp0 connection has been created.
4) Although DHCP assigned me DNS addresses in resolv.conf, they didn't work for me. So I manually created a new /etc/resolv.conf, with another DNS addresses. Enter some DNS you know:
nameserver xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
nameserver yyy.yyy.yyy.yyy
5) /sbin/route add default ppp0
That's all. I hope it works for you. |

Mabe your able to get an box WITH a working internet-connection, like another box with the vpn.
Then share your internet with the windows internet connection shareing, or something other, and just setup your box to use that box as a gateway.
Just my 2 cents.. |

Wow, that's super lame. You're on campus and they make you login with VPN? That sucks. _________________ Half-life/Source/Urban Terror/Unreal control panel -> www.opengamepanel.org
