I try and run emerge the openoffice-bin ebuild, but it doesn't seem to work. Here is the output of the emerge program:

when I try to run /opt/OpenOffice.org1.0.1/setup, it says
Code:
bash-2.05a# ./setup
bash: ./setup: No such file or directory

If I manually try to unpack the tar.gz file that emerge downloads, it unpacks, but when I try to run the setup program it doesn't work. The little progress bar with the picture of an open box runs to completion, it outputs "glibc version: 2.2.5", and then it just stops.

I can't figure out what is going on, and I can't think of anything else to do. I've tried doing the source ebuild, but that doesn't work iether because I have the wrong version of gcc installed. Can anybody help?

I ran that, and updated all the files, but none of them fixed the Openoffice problem.

Oh yeah, I did have Open Office installed and working at one time, but then I tried to update from 1.0 to 1.0.1, and that's when all my problems started. I unmerged both, and now I can't get either to install.

there are two files that must be removed in your home directory. a .openoffice directory and another file .sversionrc

it will work fine

You shouldnt have to run setup.

Just running one of the apps (ooffice here) sets up the config files/folders in your home directory.

I shouldn't have to, but something is screwed up. The directory .openoffice and file .sversionrc do not exist, but it still doesn't work. Here's what happens if I try to run ooffice:

Code:
bash-2.05a$ ooffice
running openoffice.org setup...
/usr/bin/ooffice: /opt/OpenOffice.org1.0.1/program/setup: No such file or directory
setup failed.. abort

It sure would be nice to open all the sxw documents I have... I really wish it would work.

Had you filed a bug report yet?

Here's one that's similar:

If you havent filed one yet, please do. You may even get some help with this issue.

You should open an account with Gentoo's bugzilla and add a comment to that bug stating that you too are having this problem so that they know that it's not only 1 or 2 people having the prob.

This is how we get stable systems :D

This isn't a solution, but
I had the same problem as described above, i.e.,
emerge openoffice-bin ran without error, but the programs to run didn't exist.

Then I manually downloaded the file from oo.org and tried their install.
I got the little graphic that seemed to indicate it was installing, but still
nothing!

When I upgraded my machine from gentoo 1.2 to gentoo 1.4rc1
(ie switch grom gcc 2.95.3 to gcc 3.2.1)
then openoffice-bin installed with absolutely no problems and the program runs.

Not an easy solution because the upgrade is far from trivial.
