dont really see the necessity (other than ultra-convienence) of emerging quake 3.

Right that's all you have to do and is what I have done before I had gentoo but why not use gentoo and portage to manage quake3 too? You are right about mods too, theyre just subdirs in the quake3 folder and you can do all of that by hand yes.
So whats your point? Many software packages are "./configure && make install" and thats all you need to do, so why bother to have an ebuild for it? |

UT vs CS
Urban Terror:
Better levels
Actual sniping
Bots (yeah, i know there are cs bots)
Doesnt bother with WON.net
Deathmatch feels so right
correct reloading (no magic threading of bullets into your clip)
Counter-Strike:
More weapons
More tactical play
Magical threading of clip on reload
No real sniping
You hafta sit around and wait after you die
Many weapons but it could be limited to same amount as ut and no one would complain _________________ There are 10 types of people in this world, those who understand binary, and those who don't.

They accepted the ut2003-demo ebuild (lots newer) and still not the urban terror one. Give me some support in the bug if you tried it and it's working ok. _________________ IM me at tuxisuau@jabber.7a69ezine.org |

If you like CTF you gotta check out our server at fsk405.net, one of the best UrT Ctf servers out there. Right now I unfortunatly play Q3 in windows but theat may change someday (but my clan uses Roger Wilco for team chatting, not avail in linux). Anyone tried the linux team chat progs? </end my big plug for UrT>

Sup timmfin. We (clan [e]nigma) have been using the latest beta release from TeamSpeak pretty happily. Most on windows and several on linux.

I just installed the 2nd release of RC1 and it works great. Keybinds work! |

From http://www.urbanterror.net/faq.html
Q: Why can I not see any servers listed in the in game browser for Urban Terror?
A: You need to change a cvar setting in your config file. Follow the steps below and your in game browser will receive Urban Terror servers.
* Step 1. Start up Urban Terror.
* Step 2. Bring down the console with the tilde [~] key.
* Step 3. Enter in /seta ui_ingameMaster 0.
* Step 4. Go to the ingame browser, select Internet, "Get new list" and enjoy.

My UrT clan uses teamspeak2 (http://www.teamspeak.org/) It's really great. Higher quality sound than rogerwilco, and has both linux and windows clients/servers which don't suck. |

when i try to connect it says INVALID_CDKEY
and i actually know why
but i thought that urban terror is a free mod... isn't it?
i mean isn't there any way to launch urban terrorit without quake or at least without cdkey varification
duh, i guess i'll stick to Unreal, it's free and multiplayable |

For those who have problems running the mod, this is what u need to write in the terminal :
quake3 +set fs_game q3ut2
If u rather not type this everytime, u could make script that would launch this for you using the name u want. For example, as root write this in your /quake3/q3ut2/ dir :
echo "quake3 +set fs_game q3ut2" > urbanterror
then, still as root, you change the permissions so everyone can execute the script :
chmod a+x urbanterror
Finally, still as root, u link it from a directory that is in your path :
cd /usr/local/bin/
ln -sf /your/path/to/quake3/q3ut2/urbanterror urbanterror
Now you can run the mod from anywhere with any user by typing :
urbanterror
I also recommend u set up an autoexec.cfg file with other custom.cfg files in your /quake3/q3ut2/ folder to load your key binds so they dont get reset everytime you start the mod.
cheers,
Brainlock |
