is anyone else having problems emerging from ftp servers? i even updated the mirrors with mirrorselect and emerge hotplug still looks to a server that doesnt log in.
the server is.... pciids.sourceforge.net

sourceforge is known to have trouble sometimes. try to google for the archive in question, and push it manually to /usr/portage/distfiles, then run emerge hotplug. |

yes if i go to the site in lynx and restart emerge it will go through... it seems emerge has resolving host issuses.
even with ccccom.com it will not go but if i restart emerge it will. |

err.. this looks like a problem with your network - not with emerge. you say that without downloading the archive manually, emerge will start downloading as soon as you call a webpage with your browser? is this correct?
looks like you router does honor requests on port80 only to connect to the internet - could this be he case? |
