The only game that necessitates a Windows partition. It doesn't look good for the future either since all next generation MMORPGs make heavy use of DirectX. Perhaps we should start pushing for a linux version of World of Warcraft already.

Yeah, but the fact is that linux games just don't sell. Loki went out of business, Quake III for linux didn't sell well and I haven't heard of one commercial success related to using linux to play games. (There's been some success using linux to serve games, but that's different)

I'd almost be afraid to suggest to Blizzard that they port WOW to linux because if (when?) it fails, they're going to be that much more gun shy about coming back to linux if and when it ever does make any inroads in the gaming area.

Not trying to knock linux -- believe me, I wish things were different. I don't see that happening in the near future, however.

I guess the waters will be tested with the (eventual) release of NWN. Maybe Bioware has some type system of identifying which platform a person uses when they log on. It would be interesting to see the numbers of how many gamers use the NWN exclusively in Linux.

I do think it's an excellent idea for Bioware/Infrogrames/whatever to develop the game for numerous platforms. It shows that you don't have to EXCLUSIVELY develop games for Linux. Cross-platform gaming has always existed. If they can get something to work on PS2, X-box, and Gamecube, I'm sure they can do it for Windoze and Linux as well.
