And believe me, I was a diehard FreeBSD fan. There were two things missing with every other Linux distro:
1) A ports collection, like FreeBSD's or Portage. Apt-get didn't cut it.
2) The ability to recompile everything on the system with custom flags.
(well, you CAN do #2 on any distro, but on any other distro it is a major PITA)
Gentoo not only brings these things to Linux, it also does the Portage system better than FreeBSD's ports collection. It is smarter, faster, and most of all--ebuilds actually build! I can't remember how many times i've seen a broken FreeBSD port. There have, of course, been a few broken ebuilds I am sure, but nowhere near the number...And Gentoo is new! The ports collection has had time to perfect itself for years.
Gentoo is simply the finest OS available today. _________________ The greatest deeds are still undone, the greatest songs are still unsung... |

On the box it said it was designed for Win XP or better, so why won't it work with Linux? |
