Hi,
Gentoo newbie here wondering whether I'll need to tell X and QT to use Freetype so I can use anti-aliased truetype fonts or will the emerge do it automatically? And if I do have to explicitly enable FreeType in QT and X, how do I do it? |

xfree v4 series has implicit support for truetype fonts, freetype2 is contained in the xfree tarball and compiled in (i.e. it's statically linked and it shouldn't matter whether you've emerged freetype2 or not). Just make sure that:
is in your XF86Config file in the Module section. You'll need to specify (in XF86Config) the paths to your truetype fonts which will typically be put in sub-directories under /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts. There are plenty of resources available on how to configure X suitably (try the XFree86 Font-Deuglification HOWTO).
You shouldn't have any problems with Qt either, the USE flags in /etc/make.profile/make.defaults have truetype specified anyway. |
