Ok, I'm ready to give up.

I have a blade 100 with a PCI Expert3d installed.

Solaris sees that I have an Expert3d installed and switches all output to it automagically.

Gentoo with 2.4 and 2.6 kernels insists on providing *zero* output to either framebuffer if the Expert3d is plugged in. If I remove the Expert3d, Gentoo outputs to the onboard ATI.

*pulling my hair out*

Has anyone got this to work? Anyone? Bueller?

Oops. Forgot to post this:

Code:

Bus  0, device  19, function  0:
VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Rage XL (rev 39).
      IRQ 8222880.
      Master Capable.  Latency=64.  Min Gnt=8.
      Non-prefetchable 32 bit memory at 0x1ff06000000 [0x1ff06ffffff].
      I/O at 0x1fe02000b00 [0x1fe02000bff].
      Non-prefetchable 32 bit memory at 0x1ff00426000 [0x1ff00426fff].
  Bus  1, device   1, function  0:
VGA compatible controller: PCI device 1091:07a0 (Intergraph Corporation) (rev 0).
      IRQ 8222720.
      Master Capable.  Latency=64.
      Prefetchable 32 bit memory at 0x1ff04000000 [0x1ff05ffffff].
      Non-prefetchable 32 bit memory at 0x1ff03000000 [0x1ff0300ffff].
      Prefetchable 32 bit memory at 0x1ff03800000 [0x1ff03ffffff].

So you can see that Gentoo recognizes the ATI as a framebuffer, but not the Expert3d. D'oh!

Are you sure that it's an Elite3D?
Elite3D are only for UPA slots. Maybe you mean an Expert3d ord Expert3d-lite - but unfortunately there aren't supported by linux

I'm sorry... I meant EXPERT3d-lite (postings changed). Thanks for catching that.

Man, that's why I should not be posting at night. *sigh*

Expert3D-Lite isn't supported under Linux in either the console or in X, so if you want to use the Blade, you'll have to use the onboard video card. In most of the reports I've heard from people that have them, you may have to remove the Expert3D-Lite to get the system to boot right under Linux.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Luckily I'm up to my armpits in framebuffers, so I'm off to try others. Anyone have a success story using another FB on the blade aside from that onboard ATI?

GenTimJS: But if I sell it to you, I can't use it in another Sparc!
