i've yet to taste a beer i've enjoyed drinking and could finish the bottle (except for corono, i can finish one of those if i try). anyone live in florida and can recommend a decent tasting beer that's not overly hyped mud (guinnes)?

It seems like you enjoy the lighter tasting beers.

I might recommend a wheat beer such as Hoegaarden Original White Ale.

I'm sure the original poster have never tasted beer, just crap like Bud or Miller et al... Chemical brew with a similar color as beer, but thats where all similarities ends....

Beer tasting like mineral water? That would make into a killer pretty quickly ... :-)

Thanks aethyr. Perchance could that be found in your standard publix / windickme? Any other recommendations for non bitter tasting beer?

I don't know about supermarkets... Hoegaarden is fairly well known, but you might have better luck finding Blue Moon. Sierra Nevada also makes a wheat beer which is good.

As far as other non-bitter beers, there's #9 by Magic Hat (a Vermont company), which tastes slightly apricotish. Again, that might be hard to find in supermarkets. There's also the regular Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, which I don't find bitter at all.

My advice to you would be to ask some friends what they recommend next time you have a party, and try a few different types. Everyone knows at least one beer connaisseur. Also, there are usually some good microbrew restaurants which will offer recommendations on beer to go with whatever meal you choose for dinner. That's also a good way to try new types.

Personally I find beer just as varied as wine, and also just as fun :)

Heh, I would do that, but most are either happy with a fruity drink or hard liquor. The only sorta beer person refuses to drink american beer and insists that the only good stuff is in britania.

I had a 22oz Fat Tire the other night. Definitely not equivalent to mineral water, and a beer I highly recommend.

Any US beer that comes in a can is not much different from mineral water. :P

You cannot judge US beer by the big brand names (bud, miller, coors, ....) They are nothing more than a grown-up soda pop.

Well, if you drink Bud, Heiniken or any light beer you might as well drink water. If you want to drink real beer, there's only 1 choice : Duvel ! (ok, maybe Westvleteren too ).

Oh, and a tip to the Hoegaarden fans. If you have the right glassware (wich you should have), freeze the glass before using it.

Jebus Kreist!

If beer tastes just like sparkly mineral water, you taste buds must be wrecked.

Gimme a good old danish beer any old day.

Albani Odense Classic, Refsvindinge Ale No. 16, hell even a bog-standard Tuborg or Carlsberg (not the export versions. They are way too weak).

Even better, gimme some mead. 'Tis truly the drink of the gods, and it can be drunk in many creative ways. On the rocks. Mixed with beer. Or near boiling in a clay cup. It's truly a multi-facetted drink.

Yes, Westvleteren is my favourite trappist. Pity is it so damn hard to get...

The best beer I know comes from northern Germany and is called "Flensburger", a great, fresh strong taste -- and no headaches!

Next time you want a beer try naturally sparkling mineral water. It's similar in taste to beer and is better for you/non alcholic. Just thought I'd share sitting here drinking some when my dad is having beer watching the ravens game.

Not in Canada.

Yeah, it is hard to get, as 60km of biking to get to Westvleteren is a bit far for me....

Not quite a honey beer, as it is in fact a honey wine ;)

I have no idea where you can buy mead in the UK, but I would think that stores catering to the viking/medieval re-creation scene would carry mead and other related foodstuffs.

Here in Denmark, I buy my mead at "Skjold Burne" in Odense.

If you can get mead from "Dansk Mjød A/S", it is widely considered to be of the very highest quality.
