There is an ebuild available, just wasn't put on sf for some reason. I'll deal with that in a few.

The old ebuilds won't work because of the very surprising kernel version number, 2.6.8.1, because of the NFS problem in 2.6.8. The only way around that AFAIK is the method gentoo-dev-sources uses, start with 2.6.8, and then include the .1 patch in the patchset.

But for me it works: I just changed the name of the ebuild to 2.6.8.1-r1 :)

Good to know, thanks!

I just compiled the new kernel and it works fine and I think very fast :)

But I'm missing the lirc-patch? Where can I find it to patch my kernel manually and why is it not in the love patchset? I really need my remote control working :?

I tried turning off framebuffer, but that didn't work either... :/
anyone cares to help?

Disable vesafb-tng, enable vesafb. Worked for me

Looks like portage doesnt like the -np on the ebuild name. Did a bit of hacking with the ebuild and tested it on my laptop and desktop.

Mainly just added -np.patch after ${KV} on LOVEPV_SRC and UNIPATCH_LIST

2.6.8.1-np ebuild

note:: this will repace the other ebuild so please rename the old one.

And for you non-staircase lovers i just finished the diff, removes sched* and staircase, have fun!

What's the main difference between these two shedulers? Are there any benchmarks?

Mine won't compile :(
Code:
  CC [M]  drivers/scsi/megaraid/megaraid_mbox.o
drivers/scsi/megaraid/megaraid_mbox.c: In function `megaraid_queue_command':
drivers/scsi/megaraid/megaraid_mbox.c:112: sorry, unimplemented: inlining failed in call to 'megaraid_mbox_build_cmd': function body not available
drivers/scsi/megaraid/megaraid_mbox.c:1455: sorry, unimplemented: called from here
drivers/scsi/megaraid/megaraid_mbox.c:121: sorry, unimplemented: inlining failed in call to 'megaraid_mbox_runpendq': function body not available
drivers/scsi/megaraid/megaraid_mbox.c:1458: sorry, unimplemented: called from here
make[3]: *** [drivers/scsi/megaraid/megaraid_mbox.o] Error 1
make[2]: *** [drivers/scsi/megaraid] Error 2
make[1]: *** [drivers/scsi] Error 2
make: *** [drivers] Error 2

I don't even have any SCSI related items activated in my config. I just copied my older love-sources config across and checked it through menuconfig to make sure it was all ok. What's wrong with it, and why is it trying to compile scsi/raid stuff?

i'm just trying this love-sources
the ebuild doesn't work for me, i have to patch it manually, but then almost everything is ok, expect one big problem:
network doesn't work - I have VIA Rhine in my laptop and with 2.6.4wolk or 2.6.5mm it's ok
when I boot into this love, i can't get IP from dhcp server, but everything looks OK. when i plug or unplug ethernet cable, i have the message in dmesg.

And my MAC adress is always changed to 00 00 00 00 00 8O and i have to shutdown and power on computer to be everything ok

I would love to see Win4Lin into the kernel... saves me a lot of trouble patching it and everything :)

And of course swsusp2 :D

But those 2 things not mentioned this is another fine release :)

Hey guys,

First... thanks a lot for your job, the love-sources really ROCK LIKE NINJA!!
But it seems like the acx chipset support is no more into the staircase release on sourceforge... so, could you check that and just re-add it please?

This one has it!

Thank you in advance!

I couldn't find the 2.6.9-rc1-love1 thread but I'm having a problem "make"ing it.... I get the following error

Code:

  SPLIT   include/linux/autoconf.h -> include/config/*
make[1]: `arch/i386/kernel/asm-offsets.s' is up to date.
  CHK     include/linux/compile.h

  GEN     .version
  CHK     include/linux/compile.h
  UPD     include/linux/compile.h
  CC      init/version.o
  LD      init/built-in.o

drivers/built-in.o(.init.text+0x90ca): In function `vesafb_probe':

I did a make oldconfig from my 2.6.5 kernel. it seemed to go fine. I've done it before. anyone know how to fix this?
