I know the proprietary ATI drivers do not, but do the DRI modules (ie, the ones contained in the kernel itself) work (with 3d accelleration)? |

I tried those, but really couldn't get them to work. Haven't heard of anybody else that did, so I'm not to optimistic about those drivers. Let's just hope that ATI turns around quickly. |

in my opinion www.ati.com deserves to be defaced. _________________ Tyan Thunder K8W; dual 244's, 2Gigs ECC, SBLive, G4Ti4600,

Well, you do know that these drivers are NOT supposed to work, don't you?
However, for anything up to the Radeon 9200, the DRI drivers should work. _________________ clue = if 0 == 0 then clue else error "The poster didn't have any clue when he posted this." |

Fat chance in hell of any part of that petition coming through. Requiring ATI to completely open-source their chipsets? Much better to extend the NDA agreement given to the DRI project through the 9800, rather than ask them to sacrifice their research on the alter of Linux.
EDIT: I'll be bringing home an 8500 from work to see if the DRI drivers work with it (I have a 9600SE), so here's hoping OSS did a better job than ATI. |

You shouldn't put too much hope in this petition. Allthough i signed it too i think it will be no use. But on the other side i think i will support nvidia with my next buy. |

Well, the DRI drivers sort of worked...glxinfo says I have direct rendering now, except that I can't get above 100fps in glxgears...without direct rendering, I get ~400.
Anybody know why?
EDIT: Upgrading to the very newest version of x.org fixed this (with the insecure-drivers USE flag). Getting a nice ~1500 fps in glxgears now. |
