Hi,

I'm having troubles watching some of my movies which are in VCD or SVCD format. I'm using mplayer.
Code:

root@localhost mpegav # mplayer avseq01.dat

Using GNU internationalization
Original domain: messages
Original dirname: /usr/share/locale
Current domain: mplayer
Current dirname: /usr/share/locale

MPlayer 0.90pre10-3.2 (C) 2000-2002 Arpad Gereoffy (see DOCS)

CPU: Intel  (Family: 8, Stepping: 4)
CPUflags:  MMX: 1 MMX2: 1 3DNow: 0 3DNow2: 0 SSE: 1 SSE2: 1
Compiled for x86 CPU with extensions: MMX MMX2 SSE SSE2

Reading /root/.mplayer/codecs.conf: can't open '/root/.mplayer/codecs.conf': No such file or directory
Reading /usr/share/mplayer/codecs.conf: 44 audio & 110 video codecs
init_freetype
Failed to open /dev/rtc: No such file or directory (mplayer should be setuid root or /dev/rtc should be readable by the user.)
Using usleep() timing
Can't open input config file /root/.mplayer/input.conf : No such file or directory
Input config file /usr/share/mplayer/input.conf parsed : 50 binds

Playing avseq01.dat
Cache fill:  0.00% (0 bytes)    ============ Sorry, this file format is not recognized/supported =============
=== If this file is an AVI, ASF or MPEG stream, please contact the author! ===

Exiting... (End of file)

Is it just that mplayer can't play the VCD format or am I totally lost here?

Now I have solved my problems and I thought it would be a good idea to share with other people maybe wanting to know also.

I emerge vcdimager and used it to rip .mpg from .bin files.
Code:
root@localhost CD1 # vcdxrip --bin-file="xxxxxx.bin"

Now I have .mpg file which I can play with mplayer.
