My hard disk recently crashed :( Hardware failure sux.

If I install the rc1.1.4 will I have to reinstall when 1.4 is released or just upgrade as normal?

What I really want to know is how soon is 1.4 coming out and how stable is the rc1_1.4?

Amen to that.

1.4 will really only be packages updates from 1.4-rc1 and a new Live CD to install... There might be a few large changes (maybe glibc2.3x??) but pretty much regular Gentoo users will sail into the release with ease.

The website says we can expect the final release in December (wow, that's this month). I have had no problems with 1.4-rc1 that weren't of my own causing.
