Before i start, I'd just like to say, THANK YOU!!! to everybody who posts on here, the forums have been indispensable in my quest to get kde 3.0.4 working.

After toiling for a few days, i managed to get the latest glibc and gcc emerged, and then qt. they're all at the latest versions the stable portage tree provides:

gcc - 3.2-r4

glibc - 2.2.5-r7

qt - 3.1.0-r1

-----

After this, i tried to emerge xfree 4.2.1, knowing the issues with emerging kde. Unfortunately, it errored out, cant remember what the error was about though.

Instead, i emerged 4.2.0-r12, without too much difficulty, but forgetting to export CONFIG_PROTECT="", so it didnt update the left-over 4.2.1 config files. Fine, i thought, cant be that big of a deal.

i emerged kde without any troubles, and started kdm.

Now, my problem is, no matter what XSession I choose, kde, kde-3.0.4, it just loads twm?!

help!

Ok, update on my status, kde seems to be WORKING fine, thats not the issue

if i login to twm and type /usr/kde/3/bin/startke

i get a sort of convoluted kde desktop, with twm and the window-manager still, so im assuming theres some soft of issue with my configuration of x-windows. again, any help is much appreciated.

heh, sorry for the bump, but, it seems i have semi-answered my own question

if i add /usr/kde/3/bin/startkde to my users' .xinitrc, then type startx, it loads kde just dandy, which is actually pretty nice, but i still wouldnt mind knowing how to use kdm as a login manager properly, its still broken!
