I emerged several xmms-plugins (xmms-volnorm,xmms-crossfade, some visualisation plugins). when I call the preferences dialog, the window pops up but I cannot press any button, select another tab or move the window! all I get is
Code:
Error: Stacking constraint failed

Anyone having solved this? Is this an xmms or a gnome problem?

actually, the problem is not limited to the preferences. most external windows do show this behavior, e.g. when trying to load presets for the equalizer. loading playlists on the other hand works fine. i also emerged and recomplied the latest version, no change :( I also removed the whole .xmms directory in case there was something broken.

this seems to be a problem between sawfish/gnome and xmms. any ideas?

I have the same problem but only in gnome when using sawfish and when xmms is set to "always on top".
It might be one of sawfishs million feature but I can't seem to find it.
The mouse is disabled on the sub-windows except for the right click which can change the focus of a button but can't press it.
Everything works with the keyboard.

My only suggestion for you now is to disable "always on top" in xmms. <Ctrl>-<a>

I've had a problem with the preference dialog being unresponsive before on my Redhat machine. Erase the .xmms directory in your home and see if you can edit prefs then.

removing .sawfish from my home directory seemed to have no effect! Anyone else have this problem? Or better yet, a solution?

Try erasing the .xmms directory in your home and see if you can edit prefs then, as I said above.
