Okay, I decided to give fluxbox a shot. Only, I downloaded the source from the website before looking to even see if it could be emerged. D'oh! Well, anyway, all went fine in compiling and installing.

When I try to run exec /usr/local/bin/fluxbox I get this error:

Code:
Warning: Failed to open catalog, using default messages.
BaseDisplay::BaseDisplay: connection to X server failed.
Fluxbox: Unknown error.

And I'm stuck! :/

If it comes down to "uninstalling" this and running an emerge on fluxbox, how do I "uninstall" something that I've done a compile on? Is it simple?

Tried searching.

Did search on exact error string, no results.

Thanks for the links though :)

Yeah, everything's fine now. I fixed it by editing /etc/rc.conf and putting "fluxbox" for my Xsession.

Anyway, I can manage to unmerge something, but I mean, what if I just downloaded the source and did ./configure, make, and make install.

That kind of deal.

keep the source, and when you want to uninstall it, do 'make uninstall' and manually delete all the configuration files.
