Trouble adding my RTL8029 ethernet adapter..

Here's the thing..
I used to have Gentoo 1.2 installed and had the ne2k-pci loaded.. and my
hubcard(RTL8029) worked like a charm.. but now when I boot up my newly installed Gentoo 1.4, it shows me that it detects the card and says: Bringing eth0 up [ok]...
But still I can't ping other computers on the network..

Im quite baffled by this.. I even had a litle trouble when I used the 1.4 livecd because it didn't start this card.. In the end I had to boot up from the 1.2 cd and then turn to the 1.4 install..

If anyone has any ideas of what I might be doing wrong, I would really appreciate it =)
