|I did a little research on their site and the only problem I can see is that they don't completely disclose the source. I realize that would probably destroy a bit of our competitive advantage. Oh well.
For those of you not in the know, distributed.net is a group that is participating in the RSA-72 challenge. In essence, the challenge is to brute-force an encrypted message that uses a 72-bit key.
Now for the good parts: $10,000 prize. Of that, $6000 goes to a non-profit organization chosen by users, $2000 goes to distributed.net, $1000 to the owner of the computer that finds the key, and $1000 to the team of the winner.
I think we could make an impressive show in this contest. Even if we decided to not go with distributed.net, we could still participate in the RSA challenge. I'm currently running setiathome, but the prospect of winning $1000 is kinda nice.
