Has anyone successfully installed modules for the ac97 sound card. I have one that is embedded on my Asus p4t533C motherboard, but I can't find any setup options to support it when I do make menuconfig, even though in /usr/src/linux/.../sound/ there are 3 modules that begin with ac97. |

I've read quite a few threads about ac97. I don't have it myself though.
Moved from Installing Gentoo.

If you've finished the install guide, look somewhere else. But if you're still working your way through it, or just need some info before you start your install, this is the place. |

I have an ALC201, and the driver is supposed to be ac97. Even my driver for it in Win2K is called AC97. But Audio PCI 97 never worked for me. So I just compiled every sound driver and modprobe'd everything until one worked. In the end, it was the "Intel ICH i8xx" driver, which happens to also install the ac97_codec module. So you might just want to give that one a shot. |

What does lspci output? There should be a device listed with "AC97" in the name.
Post the results of lspci and we can likely find the correct driver. |

You'll need to emerge pciutils to have lspci available. |
