Alright - is there a way to install gentoo on an AMD based Cobalt RaQ4 system? Right now I am trying it with the regular x86 live cd and I keep getting Kernel Loading messages.

Thanks in advance for the help

You'll most likely want to have a look at http://www.gurulabs.com/rhl-cobalt-howto/redhat.qube3.howto.9.html.

The RaQ4 is similar to the RaQ3 in that it's an x86 (and of course the RaQ is simply a rackmounted version of a Qube). The part about flashing the eeprom probably won't be applicable, but the document will still be of use.

AFAIK you need to pull out the HDD, stick it in an ordinary x86 machine, do the install, tinker with the settings a little, then stick it back in the Raq. Or you could try netbooting it, but I'm not sure how this works on these boxes.

Beyond that, I wouldn't have a clue as I've never used one of these boxes myself. (My cobalt server is a much older Gateway Microserver which is a rebadged Qube 2 running a MIPS CPU)

Check down the forum for a topic on installing a qube3, the basic concept is the same for a raq 3/4.

I'm currently working on moving the patch I found for the 2.4 kernel to 2.6 for the RaQ 3. It "should" support all Gen III and Gen V systems as it originally did in the 2.4 kernel. I'll post the patch when I've had a chance to be sure it works on my 3i.

Thanks for the information on that... Now let's see if I'm able to figure out how minicom works ;)

Thanks again.
