Hi all, having some n00be problems (maiden post ) installing Gentoo on a Sparc Ultra10. At the point where I extract the stage tarball (using a stage 3) I get an error;
tar: ./proc/ ./keep: Cannot open: No such file or directory
./root/
./root/ .keep
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors
Im in the middle of troubleshooting this install as when I re-boot I seem to loose all the configuration in Silo and fstab. Ive taken the install from the bottom up referring to handbook.pdf and this is my third attempt . I have had a look with Google and heard mention that this error can be ignored, is this true? Thanks for any help. _________________ Regards

from my Gentoo handbook:
"Note: You can ignore any "No such file or directory" warnings regarding ./proc. Also, the message "Error exit delayed from previous errors" can be ignored as well."
I have ignored it and now my Gentoo on Ultra 10 works well! |

Thanks K-Line, Ive managed to get further this time. I've got a base system installed but am still getting a few errors:
Cannot open font file default8x16
*failed to set user font
cannot open file sunkeymaps
*Error loading key mappings
Error initializing random number generator
start-stop-daemon: start /usr/sbin/syslog-ng: No such file or directory
*Failed to start syslog-ng
*Error: Problem starting needed services.
* "vixie-cron" was not started
I know I have installed both syslog-ng and vixie-cron, should I fix these errors first or am I safe to go on installing a desktop environment? _________________ Regards
