After unsuscessiful installation on my K6-II i tryed installing gentoo on my P-III beginig with stage 1 (I already managed to install various Linux distros and WIndows versions on this one without any problems). And may systems hangs after while in compiling stage1 programs once was in gcc compiling once in binutils and once on unpacking of glibc. Iam wondering what could be a problem ? I dont get any message the whole system just hangs. |

Could be a hardware issue (are you overclocking or keeping your computer in a warm place?), or could be some weird bogey. One thing I'd double check is to be sure you got the entire stage-X tar file. Other than that, who knows? No way anybody can solve any problems without any error messages, that's for sure.... Good luck!
Also, might I recommend trying stage3 instead? IMO, stage1 or 2 is just a waste of time. |

FWIW, I disagree about moving to stage 3 because you're having trouble with stage 1. That's often papering over hardware problems. Try switching or swapping out alternately half the RAM. Try running memtest86 or the stress scripts from Segmentation fault with GCC. _________________ For every higher wall, there is a taller ladder |
