Alright, I've finally got X up and running. I'm using fluxbox, but I don't have any applications installed. Is xterm and the other programs on the right click list in fluxbox already installed? Because if they are, they don't work. To use KDE apps in fluxbox all I needed to do was to put "KDE" in the use variables when emerging fluxbox right? What should I install now, give me your suggestions. Also, I think I have extended desktop configured somewhere, how do I disable it?

I'm not familiar with fluxbox, but you probably don't have all the applications in that menu installed. Xterm is part of XFree86, and lives in /usr/X11R6/bin/xterm.

I believe that putting kde in the use variable simply tells emerge to compile with kde support, when there's an option to do so. To get kde apps, you'll actually have to emerge the appropriate ebuild.

By extended desktop, i guess you mean that it is bigger than your monitor. You need to make sure that your /etc/X11/XF86Config file is set up correctly. In the Section "Screen", Subsection "Display", for the colour depth you are using (24?) make sure that the first resolution in the modes line is the one that you use.

Programs to install depends very much upon what you need and what you like.

From memory, the fluxbox menu is probably an example... you can change the entries by modifying the menu file. check out the man pages 'man fluxbox'

Your fluxbox menu file will be in $HOME/.fluxbox/menu . It's very easy to setp up and pretty much self-explainatory.
