|
|
I just installed Gentoo for the first time, and everything went well. I didn't have to do a thing to get NIC to work in the beginning.
I even made sure to compile tulip into the kernel for my NIC... But then when I rebooted and went to emerge xfree, my NIC wasn't working. I recompiled kernel, just to make sure I compiled tulip into it... and it still didn't work
I'm a newbie at this, I know... But could you help me figure out why this isn't working??
thanks |

Did you do "mount /boot" as root before you did
"cp /usr/src/linux/your arch/boot/bzImage /boot"
If you did this, post any error messages you may receive. _________________ Hope this helps!

could, but the how-to at tldp.org would probably do a better job anyway |

I'm still not sure why this isn't working... I did the following:
Code: |
make menuconfig
make dep && make clean bzImage modules mudules_install
cp /usr/src/linux/arch/i386/boot/bzImage /boot |
Shouldn't my new kernel boot up?? |

It's probably not the problem, but when I did my install, I had everything working, yet when I booted up, I had no network connectivity.
It turned out I had to edit /etc/conf.d/net and add my gateway to the end of it - Once that was done, everything worked fine.
I realise it's probably not that simple, but thought it worth mentioning.
