Hi,
my display is flickering all the time. It's a Eizo FlexScan L661 TFT, the graphic chip is a ATI rage and the machine is an Ultra10. The TFT works fine with Solaris and Windows, so I guess I need to provide a special kernel boot parameter to use the ATI framebuffer device correctly.
Which one is it and how do I do that with silo? The expample silo.conf doesn't make any use of kernel parameters.
Regards,
Thorsten
P.S.: I don't know if I'd have the same problem within X, because it isn't installed on my system yet, but hopefully will be tomorrow. |

No problem within Xorg using the ATI driver.
But the console is still flickering; I've tried "video=vesafb" and "video=radeon" so far, without any difference. With fbset I also tried different resolutions/depths, still flickering.
This is what fbset tells me now:
Quote: | # fbset -v
Linux Frame Buffer Device Configuration Version 2.1 (23/06/1999)
(C) Copyright 1995-1999 by Geert Uytterhoeven
Opening frame buffer device `/dev/fb0'
Using current video mode from `/dev/fb0'
mode "1280x1024-54"
# D: 94.224 MHz, H: 56.899 kHz, V: 53.627 Hz
geometry 1280 1024 1280 1024 16
timings 10613 190 58 31 2 128 4
hsync high
csync high
accel true
rgba 5/10,5/5,5/0,0/0

Perhaps I should play around a bit with the timing parameters...or the sync settings? Well, I don't know. The monitor is still the L661, a 1280x1024 EIZO TFT.

Thorsten |

Also tried "video=aty128fb" now (I had to compile a new kernel for that), but it still doesn't work. Looks like nothing is even accepted by the kernel, 'cause I cannot see any change between all the video modes I've tried so far. |
