|

I've got a spare ultra 5 with its HME busted...
I do however have some spare PCI ethernet cards, both some single NIC cards and an adaptec quad (which seems unsupported in linux period, nevermind sparc)
my question is,
how well do PCI nics work in an ultra5 ? special stuff to be aware of? wierd driver tweaks needed?
I know there are wierdnesses trying to use a PCI video card as a frame buffer, so I figured id ask about NICs.... _________________ -Tim Smith |

I've had Intel E100 based cards in my U5 no problem. |

Provided that the kernel supports it, it should work. _________________ --[ UltraSPARC ]--

Most decent NICs will work. A few obscure super-cheap ones don't. Your best bet is an Intel e100-based card -- excellent chipset, very well supported and far better performance than most other cards. |

Right - a while ago I tried a spare SIS900 based PCI card which didn't seem to work... |

Are the e100 based cards are the ones with the 82558 and 82559 chipsets? _________________ Gentoo Noob |
