sorry i didn´t see your post earlier. I don´t know what all this code in those files is, i just look at the .rej file and try to assign these lines manually (and most of the time, it works then :-))
PickledOnion´s page is a really good ressource for looking for win4lin-patches, he´s the "love-win4lin-guru" ;-)

No problem mate, I applied the .rej files manually and it compiled like a charm. Installed the kernel-image and rebooted with it and it seems that Win4Lin is even working :)

I only seem to have problems with bootsplash.... the splash-image wont load at startup, only when bootsplash starts itself... which is not meant to be like that :(
Anyone here knows what could be wrong?

This one doesn't seem to like my network card. It's a generic onboard via-rhine job, so nothing exotic. I checked the module was loaded and all that as well.

Probably it's something silly on my part, but I don't have time to track it down right now, so I've reverted back a love. Once this deadline is past, I'll take another crack at it

hehe, I don't release patches that don't work :D

But good to hear it works on love-sources.

I'll leave any conversion of my patches to love-sources people, if anyone gets a diff, it might be nice to host it somewhere if you can. This will save anyone who wants wn4lin on love-sources having to fix the rejects themselves (as my patches are not made for love-sources).

can you try the following patch for rc2-love1?

I'm just on my way out for a meeting - I'll do it when I get back this evening if that's OK

Hi

I am having problems making the kernel.

It finished with the following
Code:

root@Platinum linux # make
  SPLIT   include/linux/autoconf.h -> include/config/*
make[1]: `arch/i386/kernel/asm-offsets.s' is up to date.
  CHK     include/linux/compile.h
  CC [M]  drivers/video/vesafb.o
drivers/video/vesafb.c: In function `__check_gtf':
drivers/video/vesafb.c:1229: warning: return from incompatible pointer type
  GEN     .version
  CHK     include/linux/compile.h
  UPD     include/linux/compile.h
  CC      init/version.o
  LD      init/built-in.o
  LD      .tmp_vmlinux1
drivers/built-in.o(.text+0xb8786): In function `splash_getraw':
: undefined reference to `vesafb_ops'
make: *** [.tmp_vmlinux1] Error 1

My system
Asus A7V333, 512mb ram, Winfast GF4 Ti4600, SBLive Platinum.

Any help greatly appreciated.

EDIT : Oops, had VESA as a module. Compiled straight into the kernel and it now works. Phew :)

Same here, also when using rc1-love1 - looks like a common problem.

Also having the following problems :-

Bootsplash does not show until bootsplash is loaded.

When Bootsplash does load it is shifted to the left.

Code:

title=Gentoo 2.6.8 rc2 love1 (Udev)
root (hd0,0)
kernel /bzImage-2.6.8-rc2-love1 root=/dev/hda3 video=vesafb:vram16,ywrap,mtrrnoedid,nocrtc,,128x1024-16@60
initrd=/boot/initrd-1280x1024

Next thing is my network does not seem to be working anymore. I have the Realtek 8139 card. I have the correct module compiled straight into the kernel.

Edit : Dmesg, LSPCI ,/var/log/messages output provided

LSPCI

8139too module? if so - it compiles and works fine here in the kernel.

lspci output:
Code:
0000:00:07.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8139/8139C/8139C+ (rev 10)

Yeah, 8139too. Straight into the kernel (Not as a module).

Question: Can I find the individual patches somewhere? Or is there a method to split the patch set in the individual patch files? Since a short time I like to roll my own kernel with some love-patches and ck patches.

Managed to sort out the Bootsplash shifting to the left.
I had some very silly typos in grub .conf

Quote:

title=Gentoo 2.6.8 rc2 love1 (Udev)
root (hd0,0)
kernel /bzImage-2.6.8-rc2-love1 root=/dev/hda3 video=vesafb:vram16,ywrap,mtrrnoedid,nocrtc,,128x1024-16@60
initrd=/boot/initrd-1280x1024

This has now been changed to
Code:

title=Gentoo 2.6.8 rc2 love1 (Udev)
root (hd0,0)
kernel /bzImage-2.6.8-rc2-love1 root=/dev/hda3 video=vesafb:vram:16,ywrap,mtrrnoedid,nocrtc,1280x1024-16@60
initrd=/boot/initrd-1280x1024

Now to look into my network problem

Edit, Yes I have already spotted and changed the other typo in there between mtrr and noedid, DOH !!!!!

8139too Problem

Here's what is displayed in dmesg

Code:

8139too Fast Ethernet driver 0.9.27
kobject_register failed for 8139too (-17)
 [<c0247ce7>] kobject_register+0x57/0x60
 [<c029c700>] bus_add_driver+0x50/0xd0
 [<c029cd1f>] driver_register+0x2f/0x40
 [<c011adad>] printk+0x10d/0x170
 [<c024fb5c>] pci_register_driver+0x5c/0x90
 [<e1a4601b>] rtl8139_init_module+0x1b/0x29 [8139too]
 [<c013140f>] sys_init_module+0x13f/0x280
 [<c0106107>] syscall_call+0x7/0xb

Edit
Worked out what the problem was. i have 2 NIC's in my computer 1 x Realtek and 1 x Netgear. Took out the module for the Netgear (Natsemi) and it worked. YAY !!!

Here you go: (There are a couple of newer pacthes available than are used in this love - don't know if the newer ones work or not)

If people have urls to other patches then please do share it around, that's what linux is all about.

Reiser4: here
Nick Piggin Scheduler (np patch) : here
vesafb-tng: here
bootsplash: here
lirc : here
lufs & 9800_SuSE: (ck's site) here
config-nr-tty-devices.patch: Written by Steel300, here is his original post about it: here

HTH :D

[edit]

Just a quick edit, Nick has released np3, (he does say it should patch straight to rc2), I use it on rc1-mm1 and it is an improvement.

On a desktop I would take his advice and change /proc/sys/kernel/base_timeslice to 64 or 32 (I have it at 32).

HTH

I'd love to but I don't know how.

I also patched in swsusp2, it works... somewhat heh..

Does it work or not..... I'd be very very interested cuz I work on a laptop here and swsusp2 is the only thing missing.....

Anyone btw already found a solution to the bootsplash problem?
Bootsplash is not shown until it is loaded (in the default runlevel that is) and that is kinda late...

i tried updating bootsplash and vesa-tng to a newer version, as well as using bootsplash
myself to test - i tried to create a proper ramdisk according to a guide on these forums..
no errors, but this one:

bootsplash 3.1.4-2004/02/19: looking for picture..... no good signature found.

apart from the lack of bootsplash before the init script is run, it works fine :|

For me, I didn't even get that far.

vesafb: probe of vesafb0 failed with error -22
RAMDISK driver initialized: 16 RAM disks of 4096K size 1024 blocksize
RAMDISK: Couldn't find valid RAM disk image starting at 0.
bootsplash: silent mode.

but thats it, bootsplash doesn't even work after init scripts. :(

I'm getting "Input/output error" with Reiser4 over NFS. I know that Hans Reiser said that NFS and R4 was a bad combination, but I thought all known R4 issues had been fixed since then

Anyone know more about this? If I can't NFS mount /usr/portage, I might as well migrate back to something a bit more mature

hello,
i have a problem with alsa and this release of the love-sources..
when i start alsasound i get this error.. (in kernel messages)

Code:
ATI IXP AC97 controller: probe of 0000:00:14.5 failed with
 error -13

and the soundcard don't work

this is strage because i used the same configuration of the previous
2.6.7-rc3-love2 and with that kernel the audio works....

i build the ATI IXP sound driver as module.....
