I've got an ebuild. Be aware that it's pretty much my first. Seems to be working here...

[edit]

Wow, scratch everything I said, ebuild worked, vesafb does not work, usb does not work. Usb seems to be similar symptoms as 2.6.7-r8.

Aparantly there is a patch to fix the USB issues somewhere... anyone know?

Also, I changed the vesafb-tng patch to apply to 2.6.8-rc1-mm1 in case anyone wants to reverse the vesafb-rrc and try the new version...
http://users.on.net/~toml/vesafb-tng-0.9-rc2-2.6.8-rc1-mm1.patch.bz2

I probably should've given the patch to neenee a while ago, but eh :P

Usb in 2.6.7 could be fixed by reversing bk-usb.patch, not sure if that will do the trick for this one though, thanks for the vesafb btw, don't have time to apply it now, but I will.

Good stuff with the ebuild. Worked fine for me. I still have to run lilo, but I am too lazy to break out the livecd (I have to do it on a 2.4 kernel so I can put the boot sector on my RAID).

Hi,

the ebuild failed for me. I have applied the bk_usb patch to no avail. It patched okay but usb still fails to mount.

I truly wish I was a little cleverer than I am. I would love to have the know how to write an ebuild. well done for a first try nee.

yeah, the 2.6.8-rc1-mm1-np1 is working well here.

Well worth a change as it does include newer code, it's not just a patch to the new mm.

I've also not had any problems with the default timeslice in np1 (yet... :D ), but some people may want to play around with that option.

vesafb-rrc users:
Be sure to append an vga parameter with some usable value to your bootloaderconfig.

If you're having problems using bootsplash (your screen keeps blank) try removing the initrd line from your bootloader, then it should work.

Also re-emerge bootsplash and reboot your machine, if you're only having framebuffer support without some nice bootsplash-theme.

Thanks for your vesafb-tng-patch, dec - it now works all fine for me (1024x768@85Hz!). :D

Fresh from the partition that bought you the -love1 vesafb-tng patch, here's the all new super dooper patch to update nicksched to 2.6.8-rc1-mm1-np2 for your -love1 kernel.

This patch just reverses the older nicksched patch and applies the new one, simple huh? :P

Enjoy :)

EDIT: Sorry, i had to update the patch - i broke it the first time. :P Grab this new one...

dec, have you got a link to np2, on Nick's site he only has 2.6.8-rc1-mm1-np1 available, also on lkml he only mentions the np1.

Grateful if you could post it, thanks :D

I thought it was: emerge love-sources-2.6.8-rc1-r1.ebuild --digest
or was it : ebuild love-sources-2.6.8-rc1-r1.ebuild --digest

I don't remember, I'm a noob.

I use
Code:
emerge --digest love-sources

It should be ok - It's a straight steal from one of the 2.6.7 loves. Unless I did something boneheaded, of course...

Well first you have to download the patches somewhere, reverse (unpatch) the vesafb-rrc patch thats in love1, then apply the new nicksched patch and vesafb-tng patch.

So you're going to have to download the vesafb-rrc patch to reverse, from here: http://dev.gentoo.org/~spock/projects/vesafb-tng/vesafb-rrc-0.1.6-2.6.x.tar.bz2

The command to reverse that patch is as follows:
Code:
bzip2 -d vesafb-rrc-0.1.6-2.6.x.tar.bz2
tar xvf vesafb-rrc-0.1.6-2.6.x.tar
cd /usr/src/linux-2.6.8-rc1-love1
bzcat /path/to/vesafb-rrc-0.1.6-2.6.x/vesafb-rrc-0.1.6-2.6.x.patch.bz2 | patch -R -p1

Then you need to apply the vesafb-tng patch:
Code:
bzcat /path/to/vesafb-tng-0.9-rc2-2.6.8-rc1-mm1.patch.bz2 | patch -p1

And the new Nicksched:
Code:
bzcat /path/to/update-love1-np2.patch.bz2 | patch -p1

That's just how to patch the files, i'm not sure if -love1 has anything in it which affects any of the sched files or vesafb files... You might have to reverse the bootsplash patch before you do anything and then apply it again at the end.

Hope this helps in some way. :)
