Is there any way to not build a certain package during an emerge -e world? I have alsa compiled into my kernel and injected into portage, but an emerge -e world will try to build this. Is there a way to specify which packages to not build? Thanks

hi,

just edit the file /var/cache/edb/world and remove the entry for the alsa package. after that emerge shouldnt try to emerge it again, except any ohter package in the world file depends on it.

My /var/cache/edb/world file does not have an alsa entry. In fact, the list is quite short, and does not have most of the packages in an emerge -e world. Any ideas? Thanks

hmm. thats strange. on my machine there are four entries that contain 'alsa'
Code:

gentoo root # grep alsa /var/cache/edb/world
media-sound/alsa-utils
media-libs/alsa-lib
media-sound/alsa-driver
media-plugins/alsa-xmms
gentoo root #

which portage version do you use?

I am using portage version 2.0.44, should be the newest. Is this world file generated after I do something? Thanks

for information about the world class look at man emerge.
emerge adds packages to the world class by default.
you can prevent this by using the -o switch to emerge
