|
|
Trying to boot from 2004.1 Sparc64 LiveCD on Sparc Ultra5 (over serial console).
I get the following:
boot: gentoo-2.4
Allocated 8 Megs of memory at 0x40000000 for kernel
Loaded kernel version 2.4.25
Loading initial ramdisk (943758 bytes at 0x40C00000)...
Illegal Instruction
ok
I am running with 512 MB memory, 333 MHz, versions: OBP 3.15.2, POST 2.3.1
Is there anything I can do?
Thanks for your consideration.

Its the silo-thing.
Silo 1.4.4 make 2004.1 unusable on the ultra 5.
try 2004.0, should be OK, Or look on some threads below you will find exactly the same.
A gentoo - devloper provides a 2004.1 with silo 1.3.2 which boot allright.
Look at the threads, there is a URL which you will find this version.

Thank you, Frank for your advice.
I downloaded and used the 2004.1 with silo 1.3.2 from Gentoo developer. I can boot, but it hangs after the line:
* Auto-scrambling root password for security... [ ok ]
What to do...?
Thanks. |

All OK now. Reset OBP to defaults... and like magic everything is OK.
