URGENT!!! keyboard and mouse disapear

Hi all.

I have a problem with kdm.

I set it up fine with xf86config with a ps/2 mouse and 105 keyboard. kdm behaves as expected and I get the kdm logon screen.

I can then run kde fine until...

If I go into a shell with <ctl><alt><F1> and then back to my wm with <ctl><alt><F8> my keyboard and mouse no longer work! (caps lock and all)

The same happens if I end a session and start again.

Pretty frustrating, because not having a working keyboard the only option I have is to do a hard reset. (I'm not on a network so I can't tlenet to the machine)

When I reboot, kdm launches a real basic-looking menu, and kde is not even an option. I only have [Previous] and [Failsafe]. The mouse and keyboard still don't work and I have to do a hard reset.

The XF86Config file remains the same.

Any ideas?
