|
|
Hi,
after playing UT2004 many weeks on Windows XP I noticed the DVD ships with a Linux Installer, so I decided to install it on my Gentoo box. I mounted the DVD and started the linux-install.sh-script. Everything went fine, i choose to install the binaries into my home...
The critical part was entering the CD key, since the installer didn't accepted it. It works fine in Windows, but for some reason in Gentoo it says it's invalid...
Any ideas? Suggestions? Something?
Before anyone gets stupid ideas: yes I legally bought the game and own a legal cd key!

well if it is a legal copy...
try this:
goto the dir that you installed ut2004 and go into the "System" dir.
in there there should be a file called cdkey in lower case. If not run
$touch cdkey
in the ut2004 System folder.
on the file has ben touched/exists edit it with your favourite editor and enter you key in this format
XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX
using capatal letters and using the hyphen symbol |

The problem is that it does not install itself, if the cdkey is wrong.
Anyway, I created a ~/ut2004/System-directory and put a cdkey-file into it. Finally i wrote my CD key in it. When installing to that directory it still wants my CD key, which is invalid according to the installation.
Anyone got further ideas? _________________ Life is like a roll of toilet paper, when the end is near we panic! |

you can emerge ut2004. It will install without asking for the cd-key. Mount the dvd before starting the emerge.
Also, if it doesn't ask you for the cd key after installing (I don't remember if mine asked for it) you can try what flock posted here: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=179619&highlight=ut2004+cdkey

try this:
Code: | ebuild /usr/portage/games-fps/ut2004/ut2004-3204.ebuild( or whatever your ut2004 ebuild file is) config |
|
Hope it helps. _________________ This is what you get, when you mess with us! |

Ok, unluckily my 2nd issue is that I want to install the game into my home, since the / lacks space... Any idea how I can do that? _________________ Life is like a roll of toilet paper, when the end is near we panic! |

Forget my prior posting. One link to rule them all...
(ln -s ~/ut2004 /opt/ut2004)

Looks like the joy was a little bit too early. After changing a few permission to my nvidia-stuff the game starting screen appears, after changing to full screen for a few seconds I see my x-server again and a message appears:
Code: | appMsgf(): Your CD key appears to be invalid. You will need to reinstall the game and enter your CD key to fix this problem.
Signal: SIGTRAP [trap]
Aborting. |
