hi,

If I try "startx" Gnome won't start.... the only way to run Gnome is to log as root and then run "gdm" and I only can log in "Safe Gnome session" ....

In ~/.gnomerc-errors i'm getting many such errors
=============================================
** ERROR **: Failed to match any font. This could be due to a broken Xft configuration, or if you run XFree 4.1.0 due to a bug in libXrender. For more information about this, read http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=68030

aborting...

And at the end ..... ( it seems shared lib is different every time but the error is 23 always)
=============================================
/usr/libexec/gnome_segv: error while loading shared libraries: libexpat.so.0: cannot open shared object file: Error 23

Otherwise I don't seem to get erors with starting X, 'cause the gnome splash window shows up... and crashesh a little bit later...

any ideas

Make sure you don't have any ._* files in /etc/fonts/. If you do, replace the old files with these ones. Then try to 'emerge fontconfig'. If that don't work for you I don't know what will.
