Hi,
I'd like to setup a raid5 with evms. I am using the linux-2.4.19-crypto-r7 kernel. It seems that the version of evms within the kernel is different to the version of the evms-tools. ok. i have to change the kernel.
After reading the documentation on evms.sourceforge i'm a bit unsure how to interprete this sentence:
"When using EVMS you should perform all filesystem mounts using the EVMS device nodes. Failure to do so could result in loss of data when running EVMS configuration tools."
Does it mean that EVERY fs should be mounted via /dev/evms/hdX or is it only necessary for the drives on which volumes of evms resist?
Does anyone knows more about this? |

Not answering you question but are you aware that:
a) evms will not make it into the vanilla 2.6 kernel at present
b) evms is getting a complete bottom up rewrite

I think the idea is not to, but as this is a effect rewrite it could. Theres some discussion about it on kernaltrap but seems a bit vague. Alan Cox seems to be OK with the move as it gonna address some of his issues. I think they are hoping that once this is complete the distros will just patch 2.6 with the lastest evms code. Have to wait and see I suppose

teejot,
If you are using EVMS to manage your volumes, you should mount every filesystem with the /dev/evms/xxxx device nodes. This is to avoid problems where EVMS thinks the /dev/evms/hda1 compatibility volume is unmounted for example and attempts to let you resize it when it fact it is mounted but with /dev/hda1. _________________ regards,
