I have just succesfully installed a printer on one of my gentoo computers and would like share that printer with the other gentoo computer.
How do I go about doing this?

I've read the gentoo howto and it just mentions /etc/client.conf and /etc/cupsd.conf but it doesnt go into any depth about how to set it up.

Hi there,
I'll be trying the same thing tomorrow, yet instead of editing the config files you could just use [url] http://localhost:631/[/url] interface.

Makes adding printers a lot easier :)

Solved it myself! :D
Didn't have to change anything in /etc/cups/client.conf or /etc/cups/cupsd.conf.

Here's what i did:
I set "disable = no" in /etc/xinetd.d/cups-lpd and restarted xinetd
Then I just
Code:
# foomatic-configure -s cups -p <model> -c lpd://<url to server> -n <name> -d <driver>

And it worked! 8)

Ohh, sorry

I set "disable = no" in /etc/xinetd.d/cups-lpd on the server side and
Code:
foomatic-configure -s cups -p <model> -c lpd://<url to server> -n <name> -d <driver>

was on the client side.

I followed the gentoo printer installation guide on both the server and client side.
Exccept for the foomatic-configure command on the client side where I changed the printer connection from -c file:/dev/usb/lp0 to -c lpd://192.168.0.1.

Thanx Sebbe.
In the end I got the server to broadcast the brinters across my lan.
The problem with this is that OOo jobs seem to take forever to send to the printer. OOo spooles it as expected but the printer doesn't print the document for a very long time.... when it starts it prints as expected

Does any one know what could cause this lag.

can anyone help me get a LPD host queue running. This is the biggest Linux mystery that I have met yet...

where is all the good documemntation?

I am ultimately trying to serve up a PDF printer via LPD, but for now will be happy just creating and serving an LPD queue....

PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!
