I am planning to buy an Ultra 80 off of ebay. Here is some of the basic specs:

CPU/Cache 450MHz with 4MB Cache
Memory 1GB 3rd Party RAM
Disk 2x4.3GB HD
CD-ROM One internal 4X (or greater) Black or Grey CD-ROM
Video Creator Series 1 (or greater)

Can someone give me an idea of what type of SCSI drives are supported. Also, what type of RAM and IDE devices are supported. Can I plop in my Pioneer A05 drive and have it fully functional as a dvd-rom/dvd-r drive in Linux or Solaris. What kind of graphics does it support? VGA or propreitary Sun.

I was contemplating about buying an SMP machine, but Sun charges large fees for more than 1 cpu. Is there an educational license for 2 cpus? I'm a poor posgraduate student and don't want to fork $300 for a license for Solaris 9. I really need Solaris 9, because I want to use this machine to prepare for the Solaris Administration certification...

Lastly, if anyone has any comments about the test, some helpful strategies, or good study materials, I'd appreciate any advice or help.

Thanks,
Felipe

Anything that helps at SunSolve? I find that site is usually pretty informative. In fact there's a listing of HDs here :D

You should definitely go for a 4x450 MHz Ultra 80. I know I would, if I had the money :P

'cause if you don't, you'd probably may be better off (economically speaking) buying an Ultra 2.
