OK. I can't seem to play sounds. I've got everything compiled/setup right, have even tried two different soundcards (a es1371 and a true sb) and the same thing. BTW I am using the OSS drivers. So here is the problem:
In any program (tried MPG123, XMMS, and even "cat soundfile > /dev/dsp"), when I tell it to play sound, it just "hangs" and I get no sound. I can always exit out (like Ctrl-C in mpg123) and things work normally otherwise (can use other buttons/menus of XMMS) but I still get no sound. I don't have any errors on boot or in the logs, and if I manually load the modules (es1371, the needed ones get loaded automatically), I get no error but the same problem. This is driving me NUTS. Does ANYONE have an idea on how I can fix this? _________________ -- Michael

If you're doing this in kde try turning off arts.
"kcmshell arts", and untick "starts arts on startup" |
