Doh! I am trying to install Gentoo on an iBook (SE Graphite 366Mhz w/ 128 MB of RAM) before I try it on the G4, yet several hours into the compile stage (I am starting with stage 2 G3 iso) I get an odd error:
Code:

!!! Error:  The ebuild did not complete successfully.
!!! Function src_unpack, Line –103, Exitcode 1
!!! (no error message)

!!! emerge aborting on  /usr/portage/sys-apps/bash/bash-2.05b-r3.ebuild

This has happened twice to me. :cry:
I have no idea what I should do. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks!

Could you post about another 20 lines or so before that? What CFLAGS are you using, by the way?

Oops, When I unplugged the Ethernet cable so that I could type it up, I lost a lot of the output due to
Code:

eth0: Switching to forced 10bt/100bt

being repeated on the screen...sorry. I will recompile it again tonight to get the full output. What I did manage to grab was:
Code:

>>>> Unpacking bash-2.05b-gentoo.diff.bz2
tar: This does not look like an archive.
tar: Skipping to next headder
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors.
/usr/sbin/ebuild.sh: die command not found
/usr/sbin/ebuild.sh: /var/tmp/portage/bash-2.05b-r3/work/bash-2.05b-gentoo.diff: No such file or directory

Sorry about that. I am accustomed to installers like Yellow Dog Linux and Red Hat that walk you through the whole setup. But you don't learn that way! ;-)

Oh, the Flags, I have yet to figure those out. In truth, I followed the PPC instructions off Gentoo's site to the letter (except for hdx obviously) so I guess I have not set those. I would not mind learning more about them though.

Anyway, if needed, I will post the whole output tomorrow after the recomple. Once again, thanks for your help!
:-)

Ahh, I typed
Code:

emerge system

And got:

Code:

calculating system dependencies...done!
>>> emerge sys-apps/bash-2.05b-r3 to /
>>> md5 ;-) bash-2.05b.tar.gz
>>> md5 ;-) bash-2.05b-gentoo.diff.bz2
>>> md5 ;-) bash205b-002
>>> md5 ;-) bash205b-003
>>> md5 ;-) bash205b-004
>>>unpacking source
>>>unpacking bash-2.05b.tar.gz

The rest that follows is what I have already posted.
