|
|
System: gentoo 1.4 rc1, xfree 4.2.1, gnome 2.1.1
I've just emerged gimp 1.2.3 and gimp 1.3.9 and both have the same problem, png and jpg images arent shown in the main windows when opened, gimp complains about "image resolution out of bounds" and I can only see the image in the layer dialog, its also not possible to use the RGB image setting..
I've looked at gimp.org and on these forums but cant find a solution, its probably a dependency thats broken or which was not properly handeled by an ebuild script
Anyone here an idea what to do about this? |

I've the same problem but for me it is only the 1.3.x serie that is behaving this way (tried 1.3.8, 1.3.9 and 1.3.10), gimp 1.2.3 works great. Does anybody know a solution....... |

Yes there is a way. As far as I know, you'll need to compile it with -O2 or less and no other fancy flags (sorry I don't know the exact ones, I just used "-O2 -pipe" and it worked).
I've only seen this with 1.3.x myself, never heard about it happening to the 1.2 series. |

|
|
I'm trying to emerge gimp too, but I can't complete the ebuild.
It stops with
mkdir /usr/share/gimp
ACCESS DENIED mkdir: /usr/share/gimp
mkdir: cannot create directory '/usr/share/gimp' : Permission denied
mkdir /usr/share/gimp/1.2
ACCESS DENIED mkdir: /usr/share/gimp/1.2
mkdir: cannot create directory '/usr/share/gimp/1.2' : Permission denied
mkdir /usr/share/gimp/1.2/scripts
ACCESS DENIED mkdir: /usr/share/gimp/1.2/scripts
mkdir: cannot create directory '/usr/share/gimp/1.2/scripts' : Permission denied
It yelles some more and gives me a nice access violation summary about creating these 3 directories.
the permissions for /usr/share are drwxr-xr-x
I tried again, allowing everybody to write to /usr/share. Same result. |

|

Gimp compiles all the way through, but when it wants to install itself it gives an access violation when creating the directories.
I created them by hand, but after emerging again it still wouldnt put the files in there.
So I guess there must be something wrong with the ebuil (1.2.3-r3 I think).
Anybody else has a clue what we need to do ? |

I went the old fashioned way :
I installed gimp 1.2.3 from source, and injected it into portage.
Not really nice, but at least it's working |

I've had this problem and what I've found it that Opacity is set to 0 for some reason when you open up files (experience from 1.3.9). So... Just his Ctrl+L in the image window and then put opacity at 100. Current 1.3.10 won't even run for me however |

I went and emerged a previous ebuild (1.2.3-r2) - that worked fine. However, if you tried before using that build, you should first delete the gimp sources from your /usr/portage/distfiles as the source files for both releases have the same name.
If you don't do this, emerge thinks you have already downloaded the src and compiles it - compiling 1.2.3-r3 again ! |
