Hi,
could someone please give me a hint what modules are essential in the kernel. I mean: What do I have do compile in the kernel and what can do as a loadable module.
I got something like this
Dual Processor (celeron 300A --> is this 686-structure for stage 3?)
1 Ethernet Card
Sound Card
by now I think I found out that the
file system for the /boot partition,
with that of course something for the IDE controller,
SMP support
I guess as loadable I can do
Ethernet Card
Sound Card
USB
parort
serial port
What I don't know is
graphics card (to me it seems quite clear that this should be in the kernel, no graphics card --> no see)
Keyboard (ps/2)
Any ressources or hints?
Questions over Questions, but to YaST is a pain in the ass by now I didn't learn anything 'bout my system so I guess now is the right time _________________ thxMartin

The only things you really need in your kernel for Video is DRI if you plan to use it, if you're like most people on these forums, using an nvidia card, you don't need anything in your kernel at all. even with a different card, you dont "NEED" anything, the kernel can handle text-mode display fine on its own. its X that requires video drivers. in the form of a kernel module, some kind of DRI compiled in the kernel, or support built into X. anyone out there can feel free to correct me on this as I'm not 100% about anything except the nvidia stuff. |
